Pharmacy First Sore Throat Treatment

A sore throat can make eating, drinking, and speaking uncomfortable. Through the NHS Pharmacy First service at Razi Meds Pharmacy, you can access prompt assessment and treatment without the need for a GP appointment.

What this service is for

This service supports the management of sore throat symptoms, including pain on swallowing, throat irritation, and redness. Where appropriate, our pharmacists can provide NHS treatment or recommend suitable over-the-counter options to help relieve discomfort.

Who it’s for

The service is available to adults and children aged 5 years and over with sore throat symptoms such as dryness, scratchiness, or mild to moderate pain. If you have more severe symptoms, such as a high fever, difficulty breathing, or symptoms that are worsening, you may be referred for further medical assessment.

How it works

You will have a brief, confidential consultation with one of our pharmacists to assess your symptoms. If clinically appropriate, NHS treatment such as antibiotics may be supplied, or you may be advised on effective over-the-counter treatments, including lozenges, throat sprays, or pain relief.

What to expect

Most sore throats improve within a few days with appropriate care. Pharmacy-based treatment can help reduce symptoms and support recovery. If your sore throat lasts longer than a week or becomes more severe, further investigation or referral may be recommended.
