Pharmacy First Infected Insect Bite Treatment
Insect bites can occasionally become infected, leading to redness, swelling, and discomfort. Through the NHS Pharmacy First service at Razi Meds Pharmacy, our trained pharmacists can assess your symptoms and provide appropriate treatment without the need for a GP appointment.

What this service is for
This service supports patients with signs of an infected insect bite, such as increasing redness, swelling, warmth, or discharge at the bite site. Our pharmacist will assess the affected area and, where clinically appropriate, supply prescription treatment directly from the pharmacy.
Who it’s for
The service is available to adults and children with infected insect bites, particularly where symptoms are not improving with self-care or are worsening. If the infection is severe, spreading, or associated with fever or other systemic symptoms, you may be referred for further medical assessment.

How it works
You will have a brief, confidential consultation with a pharmacist who will review your symptoms. If suitable, treatment such as a topical or oral antibiotic may be supplied under the NHS. You will also receive advice on wound care, reducing inflammation, and preventing further irritation.
What to expect
With appropriate treatment, symptoms such as redness, warmth, swelling, or discharge usually begin to improve within a few days. We will advise you on how to care for the bite at home, what warning signs to monitor, and when to seek additional medical help if required.
