What Is Viagra?

Viagra is a film-coated tablet that treats erectile dysfunction (ED) in adult men. It contains sildenafil, a type of medicine called a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. By relaxing blood vessels in the penis, Viagra helps improve blood flow during sexual arousal—making it easier to get and keep an erection.

What Is Viagra Used For?

Viagra is used to treat erection problems such as:

— Difficulty getting or maintaining an erection
— Erections that aren’t firm enough for sex
— Reduced sexual performance due to poor blood flow

It’s for men who have ED and need help achieving or sustaining an erection.

How Does Viagra Work?

Sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, works by widening the blood vessels in the penis. This improves circulation and allows more blood to flow in when you’re sexually stimulated. It won’t cause an automatic erection—you still need arousal for it to take effect.

Always follow the instructions in the patient leaflet.

• Take one Viagra tablet about one hour before sexual activity, as prescribed.

• Swallow the tablet whole with water.

• Do not take more than one tablet in 24 hours.

• Avoid heavy meals or excess alcohol before taking Viagra.

• Store below 30°C in the original packaging.

• Keep out of sight and reach of children.

• Serious (rare) side effects:
• Chest pain or irregular heartbeat
• Sudden vision or hearing loss
• Prolonged or painful erection (priapism)

Do not use Viagra if you are allergic to sildenafil or any of the ingredients. Do not take with nitrate medicines or riociguat. Consult your doctor if you have heart, liver, or severe kidney problems, low blood pressure, or have had a recent stroke or heart attack. Not suitable for women or individuals under 18 years of age.
